Good Company

The Good Company is the large, brick building commanding the corner next to the railroad tracks on College Avenue. Some claim it’s haunted, others have said it it has good food and drinks. As the investigative couple that we are, we had to at least find out about the food.

The Whole Plate

Atmosphere

You will feel like you just stepped out of Appleton to grab a bite. Each room has a different theme: the library, the balcony, French Quarter, and the Pub. We were seated in the library which was a cozy, second level corner of the restaurant. The walls were decked out with all kinds of nick knacks ranging from historical Houdini posters to batman busts.

Service

This is a popular place, especially when there is a show at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. You’ll want to book a reservation if you have limited time. Nothing about the service stands out, and we did wait quite awhile for the food. They didn’t bring out everything at once which always causes that feeling of, “I want to eat but I can’t because I’m a polite person who waits for everyone else.”

Food & Drinks

Three of us had the fish special, which was classically good. However, the plating didn’t quite work because the steam from the perch made the haddock soggy on the bottom. Still tasty and would order again after trying something else. The potato was a potato.

The French onion soup…not the best, not the worst.

Lindsay went rogue and had the quesadilla salad. Their menu has American, Italian, and Mexican food so you can get just about anything you want here. The salad was quite delicious: a bed of greens with chicken, tortilla strips, cheese, salsa ranch dressing, and a cheese quesadilla on the side. I would absolutely order this again. Big fan.

As for the drinks, David got a chocolate milk ale called Two Stall and really liked it. Lindsay? Not so much. They have a large variety of beverages, some were even themed to go along with shows at the PAC, which is a nice touch. The Lion King was in town so they were all appropriately named.

All in all, this place has something for everyone and there’s no way we could ever judge the whole menu. So yes, you should go and be sure to send us a message to let us know what you got! Oh, and go see the Lion King. It’s amazing.
